Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB)
The Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board (PLAB) exam tests the doctors who are qualified abroad, to make sure they have the right knowledge and skills to practice medicine in the UK.
If you are not exempt, you need to pass this exam to attain registration with GMC (General Medical Council) which is required to apply for jobs and work in UK as a doctor.
PLAB exam is equivalent to UKMLA (UK Medical Licensing Assessment) exam, which is taken by local UK medical final year students before they can also attain GMC registration and work as doctors.
PLAB exam has 2 components:
PLAB 1 (written exam)
PLAB 2 (OSCE/CPSA)

Format of PLAB 1 exam
PLAB 1 exam is a written assessment exam where one has to choose a Single Best Answer (SBA) out of 5 choices. It has 180 multiple-choice questions and the duration of the exam is 3 hours.
